At 1627m long, the bridge is being constructed using a cast in-situ balanced cantilever method for the 260m long main span, and a segmental balanced cantilever matchcast method for the approach spans. Demolition of existing bridge and erection of new bridge and trackworks was completed in a single 4-day possession over New Year holiday closedown. The Project won the The Civil Contractors Federation Earth Award and was highly commended for the Engineering Australia Excellence Awards in Project Management.

The $23 million project St Lawrence Creek Railway Bridge Replacement Project was a high priority for Queensland Rail in 2008 / 2009. The new concrete bridge replaced the existing steel truss bridge constructed in the 1920’s. The remote location and surrounding environment posed numerous challenges for both the design and construction teams, and these are the points of interest in this project.
